FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
Below are answers to common questions about chiropractic care and how our practice works. If you’re unsure whether an appointment is appropriate for you, please contact us and we’ll guide you on next steps.
1: Appointments & booking
Do I need a referral?
No referral is required to book. If your case requires co-management, imaging, or referral, we’ll discuss that after assessment.
How long is the first appointment?
The first appointment is longer than a follow-up because it includes a full case history and examination. Typically it will run for about 1 hour. We’ll explain what we find and discuss options before any treatment.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows movement. Depending on the area being assessed, we may ask you to adjust clothing to allow proper examination (with privacy respected).
If you will be coming through from work and don't have anything on hand, don't worry, we will have some simple clothing options available for you to change into.
Can I bring imaging or medical reports?
Yes! please bring any relevant X-rays, MRIs, blood work, specialist letters, or a summary from your GP/physio/specialist.
What happens if I’m late?
If you arrive late, we’ll do our best to accommodate you. In some cases, the session may be shortened or we may need to reschedule to keep on time for other patients.
2: What we treat
What kinds of problems do chiropractors commonly assess?
Chiropractors commonly assess musculoskeletal and movement-related concerns often involving the spine, joints, and associated soft tissues.
This can include back or neck pain, headaches linked to neck strain, and joint pain affecting daily activity or training.
BUT we are also trained and specialised in addressing other musculoskeletal concerns of the rest of the body as well!
Head to toe, we got it covered!
Do you treat sports injuries?
We often see training-related and activity-related injuries. Care is assessment-led and may include manual therapy, exercise advice, and guidance on training modification. If another provider is more appropriate, we’ll refer you.
3: Treatment methods & safety
What techniques do you use?
Techniques will vary depending on your presentation and preferences. This can include joint mobilisation/manipulation where appropriate, soft-tissue techniques, TENS modalities, thermotherapy and home advice (mobility, strengthening, ergonomics).
Is chiropractic safe?
Chiropractic care is not a “one-size-fits-all” approach. We screen for contraindications and choose techniques based on your history, examination findings, age, and comfort level. We’ll explain what’s recommended and obtain informed consent from you before treatment.
Will I always be adjusted?
No. Womp Womp...
Some patients benefit from joint techniques, others benefit more from soft-tissue work, rehab guidance, or referral. Your care plan depends on our findings and what’s clinically appropriate for you.
Will I be sore after treatment?
Some people experience mild soreness or stiffness, similar to post-exercise discomfort. This usually settles within 24–48 hours. We’ll guide you on what’s normal and what warrants a check-in.
Sports Chiropractic treatments may be more aggressive to get athletes back in the game faster and therefore also have some more post-treatment soreness, but we take every step to utilise the minimum effective dose for treatment protocols to mitigate this as much as possible.
5: Medical aid, payment & admin
Do you accept medical aid?
We are covered by most medical aids and can provide invoices for medical aid reimbursement where applicable.
Cover depends on your plan and scheme rules. Typically the claim will be deducted from your medical aid savings.
What payment methods do you accept?
EFT and card payments are accepted.
Do you provide invoices/receipts?
Yes. You’ll receive an invoice/receipt via email after your appointment.
6: Care plans & frequency
How many sessions will I need?
That depends on your presentation, goals, and how your body responds. After your assessment, we’ll discuss a plan and expected timelines. We also reassess progress and adjust the plan as needed.
Do I need ongoing care forever?
No.
Some people come in for short-term care and self-management, others prefer periodic check-ins. We’ll discuss options and you can decide what fits your needs.
7: Cancellations & illness
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to change or cancel, please let us know as early as possible so we can offer the time to someone else.
Should I come in if I’m unwell?
If you have fever, flu-like symptoms, or a contagious illness, please reschedule. If you’re unsure, contact us first.
